4 Wedding Rehearsal Dinner Ideas in Upstate New York

wedding rehearsal dinner ideas

It doesn’t get the same attention as the wedding ceremony for understandable reasons, but your wedding rehearsal is not to be overlooked.

That’s especially true if you want your ceremony day to go according to plan.

This is because your wedding rehearsal is, as the name suggests, the time when you and everyone else get to rehearse everything for the following day.

So, it’s worth brainstorming some wedding rehearsal dinner ideas to help the process run smoothly.

You want to ensure that everyone can more comfortably get into their respective roles and do what they need to do.

The whole point of a rehearsal is to make the next day that much easier.

And with that in mind, let’s start with…

wedding rehearsal dinner ideas

1. Location

The place you choose to host your rehearsal dinner is more important than you might assume on the surface.

But really think about it.

You can’t just host your rehearsal in any old place, can you?

Would you host it at Chuck E. Cheese?

No, probably not.

What about some other random place?

What if it’s too loud, too crowded, or even too dangerous?

That won’t do.

Like organizing any other event, you need to find a venue that is actually conducive to what you want to do.

You want to know that there won’t be any exposed wires or young children screaming and throwing pizza at each other.

Also, check ahead to verify that you’ll have the necessary space and facilities to conduct your rehearsal properly.

If it’s ever possible, it’s almost always best to have the rehearsal at the same place you’ll be having the wedding.

That way, you’ll know exactly where everything is and be comfortable with the space.

2. Figure Out Your Emergency Plan(s)

Everything will probably be fine.

So, don’t worry your head off.

However, something will almost certainly go wrong at some point during your wedding day.

Whether it’s someone tripping and breaking their leg or a kid spilling something on someone, you can bet that there will be some unexpected mishap.

So, do your best to be prepared.

To that end, one of the most helpful wedding rehearsal dinner ideas is to set your mind at ease by making sure you and everyone else knows the emergency plan(s).

Also, if you’re hosting your wedding outside, rehearse your plan to quickly move everything and everyone inside in the event of rain.

Likewise, ensure that you’ve got all the essentials in your emergency kit by getting input from the other members of your wedding party at the rehearsal.

3. Show That You Care

Unless you’ve just invited everyone, each person at your rehearsal dinner is there to perform a specific role in your ceremony.

The purpose of having a rehearsal in the first place, as we mentioned earlier, is to give them a chance to practice their respective roles.

These people are important, and they obviously must be close to you.

So why not show them your appreciation by giving them a special gift that only they get?

We’re not talking about the wedding favors that you’ll hand out to every guest at your wedding.

Those are great, but we’re talking about something unique and maybe even customized that’s only for those playing a distinct role in the ceremony itself.

It could be anything from embroidered jackets to engraved watches or even something very quirky like a framed street map of the town you met them in.

You can get creative with it, and it’s best that you do because it should be something personal and meaningful.

4. Treat Everyone To Some Special Food

This means treating them to something they don’t normally get to eat and maybe have never eaten before.

But don’t worry, we’re keeping budgets in mind on this list of wedding rehearsal dinner ideas, so don’t think you need to break the bank.

When we say “special,” we don’t mean “expensive.”

We just mean special.

For example, have you or anyone else in your wedding party ever had authentic Neopolitan or Chicago-style pizza? Now might be the time.

How about homemade Brunswick Stew slow-cooked for 3 days by someone’s Southern grandma?

How much do you really think Grandma would charge for that?

If there’s a small, family-owned restaurant in town, you might even be able to talk with them and work out a deal for them to cater your wedding.

After all, the best food is often made by someone’s granny, and that’s frequently who is in the kitchen at those little places with only 4 or 5 tables.

If that’s who’s making all the fried catfish, jambalaya, or pupusas at your favorite hole-in-the-wall, why not ask?

The worst-case scenario is that they tell you they can’t do it for some reason, and the best-case is that you support a local small business.

Conclusion

We’ve now reached the end of our list here, but we’re sure you can come up with even more fantastic wedding rehearsal dinner ideas now that you’re hopefully at least a little inspired.

Two things that are good to keep in mind are that your rehearsal is not your wedding, and everyone there is likely a little nervous.

It’s not just you.

Every member of your wedding party is probably worried on some level that they’ll make a mistake, forget a line, or do something else to embarrass you or themselves.

So, remember that all these ideas are ultimately meant to help reduce that anxiety in both you and them.
